(Habitat Options & Planned Enhancement)
Promote the acquisition, restoration, and management of wildlife habitat.
Whitetails Unlimited is an organization committed to managing the white-tailed deer and its habitat for present and future generations. When it comes to habitat, our Hope for Wildlife program ranks second to none. The program’s success is accomplished by voluntary cost-share partnerships between Whitetails Unlimited and landowners, wildlife organizations, and government agencies. Various techniques can be applied to ensure that the white-tailed deer will have a stable habitat for decades to come. At Whitetails Unlimited, we advocate the following:
- Prescribed burns
- Development of wildlife openings
- Cedar & Hemlock regeneration
- Seeding and fertilizing
- Exclosures to monitor forest regeneration
- Maintain small openings on summer range
Our wildlife enhancement program works for both the benefit of wildlife and the enjoyment of people. Currently there are hundreds of projects underway on both private and public lands.
Land acquisition is another segment of WTU’s Hope for Wildlife program. It’s simple to understand the urgency when you stop to consider the U.S. population of approximately 275 million people is expected to double by the year 2100. Our Hope for Wildlife program offers us an opportunity to share in the responsibilities and rewards of conserving our priceless natural resources for future generations. The partnerships that we’ve created will ultimately produce untold benefits for many of our nation’s wildlife species.
