Whitetail Watch Program
Whitetail Watch, an anti-poaching program administered by WTU, is geared towards reducing the crime of poaching. To curb this illegal activity Whitetail Watch enlists the support of citizen volunteers to serve as a neighborhood watch patrol for wildlife violations in their area.
The Whitetail Watch components include wallet cards, boundary property signs, and decals as visible reminders to poachers that local citizens are on the watch and will report any suspicious activity. The materials are suitable for use anywhere in the United States. The sign encourages anyone who sees suspicious activity to report it to their proper wildlife law enforcement agency. The wallet card explains the proper action to take when a violation is witnessed, while the window decal acts as a visible deterrent to potential poachers.
“All ethical hunters have an obligation to help fight poaching,” said WTU Executive Director Pete Gerl. “It’s as simple as being aware of what’s happening around you while in the field and reporting any suspicious activity to the appropriate wildlife law enforcement agency. Poaching steals from all of us, damages our natural resources, and casts a negative light on the sport of regulated hunting. Wardens and law enforcement can’t be everywhere, and they need the help of all hunters to catch those who think laws and regulations don’t apply to them.”
Since the program’s inception in 1999, Whitetails Unlimited has provided financial support to make the program materials available free of charge to interested participants. Besides reducing poaching, the program creates better landowner/hunter relationships. Landowners can display signs distributed as part of the program notifying potential violators that their property is part of Whitetail Watch, and volunteers are watching for illegal activities.

Participation: Each landowner and program supporter participant will receive free of charge, two (2) wallet cards and two (2) decals. The quantity of signs provided to each landowner will be based one (1) sign for every three hundred (300) feet of road frontage. |
