When it was about 4:00 p.m. my dad and I went in the woods to shoot a deer and we saw a lot of squirrels. I was reading a book and my dad said "deer". I was so exited. I saw it and it went behind a tree. It smelled us and started to run off. It stopped for a second and I shot it in the heart. It ran for about 30 yards and it dropped. My dad and I were so happy. I finally got my first deer. The end.
2nd Prize
Michael Harwerth, Jr, Anoka, Minnesota
It was Saturday November 19th at 7:07 a.m. when I first saw this seven point beauty. I was taking in some of the beautiful morning lake scenery in Wisconsin off to my right just after getting settled into the tree stand. When I turned back to my left he was standing about 70 yards away in the middle of a field. It spooked me at first because it seemed like he came out of nowhere. He started to walk diagonally away from me so I slowly brought up my dad's Remington and set my scope on him. Then just as I was about to take a shot he walked behind a tree! I waited for what seemed like five minutes for him to reappear... When he finally started to come out from behind the tree I set my sites back on him again. I took a deep breath and pulled the trigger. Boom! I watched him jump into the air and then run about ten yards before he dropped to the ground. My heart was racing and I wanted to let out a big yell but I realized that wouldn't go over well with the rest of my hunting party! Instead I sent my Dad a text from the tree stand that said: "DRROOOOPPPEEDD ITTTTTT!!!!"
3rd Prize
Kody Helton, Hillsboro, Ohio
I was sitting in the stand with my Dad when he elbowed me and sai "Deer big deer " and pointed at it. I got my muzzleloader and waited on a good shot. As it walked up the hill I got my chance. When the smoke cleared it was rolling down the hill.It tried to get up but I reloaded and finished it off with another shot.
