Whitetails Unlimited announces that Executive Director David Hawkey will officially retire at the end of the month. Chris Konop, former Vice President of Field Operations for WTU, has been promoted to Executive Director, effective August 1, 2026.

Hawkey leaves behind a legacy of growth, having been one of the first employees of Whitetails Unlimited, helping start the conservation organization from the ground up. “On behalf of everyone at Whitetails Unlimited, we want to thank David for his impact and longtime commitment to our mission,” said WTU President Jeff Schinkten. "While David's presence will be greatly missed, we are excited to have Chris Konop step up as Executive Director. Chris possesses the organizational knowledge, management experience, and collaboration skills required to guide WTU into its next chapter of success.”

“I am honored to be named the next Executive Director of Whitetails Unlimited,” said Chris Konop. “David has been an incredible mentor and leader, and I am proud to build upon the solid foundation he created. I look forward to continuing to work closely with our staff, field directors, and volunteers across the country to expand our reach and support the next generation of hunters and shooters.”

Hawkey and Konop have been working closely together over the past several months to ensure a smooth transition for all.
